

Richard Blixt, 84, died Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at Centennial Healthcare Center of Greeley. He was born November 12, 1930, in Michigamme, Michigan. He served in the Arizona National Guard from January 1948 to August 1949 and the United States Navy from January 1951 to December 1954. He had a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering from Colorado University and a Master of Business Administration from Arizona State University.
Most of his career was spent as an engineer at Motorola in Arizona. He also taught part-time at Mesa Community College in Arizona. He retired in 1994 when he moved with his family to Greeley, where he taught part-time at Aims Community College for several years.
Richard was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved spending time with family and good friends. He also loved playing guitar, skiing, boxing, and his cherished pets. He was a generous man, always willing to help others.
Richard is survived by his wife of 32 years, Susan Blixt of Greeley; sister Vicki Cochran and her husband Mark Rudy and children, Sunnie and Greg, of Alamo, CA; son Richard Blixt and his fiancée Lisa of Gilbert, AZ; son Spencer Blixt and his wife Jane of Vashon Island, WA; daughter Heather Routh and her husband Greg of Mukilteo, WA; daughter Amanda Blixt of Greeley; seven grandchildren, Joshua, Dylan, Kevin, Brittany, Ian, Emily, and David, and five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his former wife Fran; parents, Elmer and Lillian (Antilla) Blixt; and nephew, Steve Cochran.
A viewing will take place at Trinity Lutheran Church on Monday, March 9, 9:30-10:30 a.m., followed immediately by a funeral service at 10:30, also at Trinity. Internment will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens after the service. The family is asking that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Wild Animal Sanctuary or to the Wounded Warrior Project, in care of Stoddard Funeral Home.
