Born to Harold and Veronica French in Greeley, Colorado, Bob was the third of four children. The family moved to La Salle when he was seven and he completed his education through high school attending Valley High. He was a gifted athlete and was an All-State selection in both baseball and basketball. Bob received athletic scholarships to the University of Northern Colorado in both sports.
Drafted during the Vietnam War, Bob served in the Army as a Military Policeman (MP) in Germany, which eventually led to a career as a lieutenant for the Evans police force. Bob finished his career of service working for Weld County as a Welfare Fraud Investigator until he retired in 2005.
Bob was passionate about his country, conservatism, his friends, the Broncos, the Rockies, the Rocky Mountains and competition in any form. He was a great story teller and loved embellishing the facts with great gusto and enthusiasm, turning sarcasm into a true art form. He was very well read and versed in more subjects than one could possibly imagine or count, especially the history of World War II.
In 1969, Bob married the love of his life and his best friend, Gail Marie Spock from Walsenburg, CO. Together they raised two wonderful daughters, Sarah Marie and Katie Marie, both still living in the Greeley area.
Bob’s favorite time was when his daughters and delightful granddaughters Addison (4) and Gracie (1) were visiting. His family and their traditions were of the upmost importance to him. Bob was loved dearly and will be missed by all who knew him. As Bob would always say: “Come on Babe, let’s go home.”
Those surviving Bob are: Gail Marie French, his wife of 43 years, Sarah Marie French-Hahn, daughter, Katie Marie French, daughter, Addison Marie White, granddaughter, Gracie Marie-French White, granddaughter, Judy French Wixson, sister of Boise, ID, Dick French, brother of Phoenix, AZ
Per Bob’s request there will be no funeral services; instead a party will be planned in the near future for family and friends.
His remains will be scattered in the mountains he loved. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Greeley Grays Baseball Club or the Wild Animals Sanctuary in care of Stoddard Funeral Home, 3205 West 28th Street, Greeley, CO 80634.
