

He was born on March 3rd, 1952 to Lyal M. and Virginia (Hettinger) Nelson.
He was a 1970 graduate of Fort Collins High School. He married Kathy Biggs on December 31st, 1986 in Timnath. The couple had five children; Laura Nelson, Diane Deering, Julie Chapman, and a son Scot Griffith, and daughter Kimberly Corderman. Farming was a way of life for Rodney and he worked the same land that his grandfather and father worked. He received a Master Agriculturist Award in 1998. He was also the President of the Lake Canal Ditch - Reservoir Company. He was a hard worker and dedicated to the farm.
Rodney was generous if it was deserved. He was quick-witted and had a talent for sarcasm. His sense of humor was one-of-a-kind. He looked at the world and all situations in a real, and practical way.
He enjoyed hunting, competing in sheep shows and trips to Las Vegas with his wife Kathy.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy, his daughters, Laura Nelson, Diane Deering, Julie Chapman, and Kathy's children Scot Griffith and Kimberly Corderman. His grandchildren, Ruben and Mariah Lucero, Eli Knowles, Austin and Savannah Griffith, and Kelci and Hayden Sauer, great-grandchildren Ava and Arya Lucero and Emma Chapman, and Sister Sonja Craighead.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lyal and Virginia Nelson, and grandparents, Clovis and Helen Nelson.
A private family graveside service will be held in Fort Collins.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the CSU Large Animal Hospital, or The American Hampshire Sheep Association.
