Ron was born in Cedar Rapids, IA, on January 21, 1941, the son of Rodney and Dorothy (Carie) LaVelle. He graduated from Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids. He grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, working alongside his Dad on the family farm. He relocated to Colorado Springs, CO, when he joined the Air Force and served as a printer apprentice at the Air Force Academy. He fell in love with Colorado and became a life-long resident.
Ron worked at a variety of places in Greeley including UNC – Food Service and Grounds, Banner Home Medical Equipment, North Range Behavioral Health, Stoddard Funeral Home and High Plains Library District.
Ron never met a stranger and was always game for a hearty conversation. Ron was a true Irishman – witty, stubborn, and a charmer. Ron was known as a car enthusiast, he could tell you much about any make or model – especially loyal to ‘40 Ford coupes. He enjoyed reading the daily newspaper, watching the news, and catching up with old friends. He was a collector of things and could fix anything with a roll of duct tape. He enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife of 25 years, Mary Ellen. They built a beautiful backyard flower garden together, which will provide comfort for May Ellen. They had a mutual love of Boston Terriers – raising Barney and Baxter.
Ron will be cremated by Allnutt Funeral Service. A memorial service will follow in the coming months. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the American Heart Association or to any native Indian support fund in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, Macy Chapel, 6521 W. 20th St., Greeley, CO 80634.
