

Ruth was born in Fort Morgan, CO on February 18, 1929 to Edwin C. and Emma E. (Prottengeier) Schmidt. She entered into eternal life on February 7, 2025. Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Carrol “Herb” Rhoades and her brother, Paul.
She is survived by four children: Giselle (Gary) Smith - Fruita CO, Valerie Rhoades - Lakewood, CO, Rodney (Monique) Rhoades - Wiggins CO, and Lyla (Oscar) Aleman - Greeley CO and one brother Harold (Betty) Schmidt of Denver CO.
Ruth has 7 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Ruth attended school in Fort Morgan until 1944 when her family moved to Platteville. She graduated from Platteville High School in 1947. After that, she began working at Mt. States telephone where she was for eight years, one serving as acting chief.
Ruth then became a dental assistant in Fort Lupton for two and a half years and that is where she met her husband, Carrol “Herb” who was a patient of hers.
Carrol and Ruth married in September of 1957 and raised four children in Platteville where she was a homemaker, school bus driver, and bookkeeper for the Platteville volunteer fire department for 20 years.
Ruth attended St. John’s Lutheran church in Platteville from 1944 until her death. She taught Sunday school for 43 years, played the organ, and was active in the ladies group.
Ruth was an active senior and volunteered at the Pioneer museum in Platteville and at the senior center. She traveled with the seniors to many destinations both near and in neighboring states.
Ruth enjoyed her family, curating her flower garden, quilting, genealogy, and other crafts.
A Visitation for Ruth will be held on Monday, February 17, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Stoddard Funeral Home, 3205 W. 28th Street, Greeley, CO, 80634. Ruth’s celebration of God’s grace will be conducted by Pastor Noah Herrmann at St. John’s church in Platteville, CO on Tuesday, February 18th at 11:00am. Her earthly remains will await the resurrection and her Savior’s return at the Mizpah cemetery in Platteville, CO. Memorials may be directed to East Fork Mission in AZ or Rocky Mountain Lutheran High School in care of St. John’s in Platteville.
