Sharrel graduated from Fort Morgan H.S. with the class of 1963. She then attended John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Arkansas graduating in 1967. She began her teaching career in the fall of 1967 at Wiggins H.S. teaching History and later became the school librarian. She retired in 1999 completing 32 years at Wiggins H.S. After “retiring” Sharrel worked for a number of years at the Quilt Shop in Greeley and later in Windsor when it moved there.
She met her future Husband Eugene Walter in the fall of 1968 while taking tickets at a Wiggins Football Game. Gene was a graduate of Wiggins H.S. and began his teaching career at Wiggins H.S. in the fall of 1969. They were married on December 21, 1969 at the Immanuel Evangelical Church in Fort Morgan. They would have been married 54 years.
A number of activities occupied Sharrel’s time when she was not working at the High School. She was an avid Quilter. At the time of her Death, she had over 100 quilts at her home. She quilted 100’s of quilts for customers and friends. She was passionate for any activity that involved the water. She was an excellent swimmer and had her own above ground swimming pool. Sharrel was always adventurous, be it for an afternoon rafting trip down the South Platte River or 2-week motorcycle trips down the Pacific Coast Highway, Glacier National Park or New Orleans. Any spare time she had you would find her in her flower & vegetable garden or curled up with one of her dogs and a book.
Two of her most amazing traits were her smile (as you see in the photos) and her love for her Dogs.
Sharrel is survived by her Husband, Gene Walter; Sister, Debra Riter & husband Bill; Sister Beverly Johnson; Brother Robert Becker & Wife Renee; Brother-in-Law Merle Walter and Wife Evelyn; Brother-in-Law Allen Walter and Wife LuAnn; Sister-in-Law Karen Miller and Husband Ron; Sister-in-Law Cindy Lambert and Husband Jerry; and a “Special Daughter” Jane Francone and Husband Bob.
