March 23, 1939-October 13, 2014
75, of Greeley
Shirley Jean Meier, 75, of Greeley, passed away at her home on October 13, 2014. She was born March 23, 1939 in Greeley, CO, to Raymond and Florence Irene (Hatch) Sitzman. She married Don Meier on April 11, 1962 in Las Vegas, NV.
Shirley graduated from College High in Greeley. She lived in Westminster, CA, from 1962 to 1994, but Greeley was always home to Shirley and she was able to return from Southern California in 1994.
Shirley was always considered to be “old school” when it came to her home and family. She vowed never to have “latch key kids” and did not work outside the home until the kids were old enough to take care of themselves. She was home when they left for school and home when they arrived back home. People that visited often commented “Does anyone live here?”, because the place was always neat as a pin. Later on Shirley went to work as a secretary for Fenwick Fishing Rods. She worked for them for 17 years.
Shirley loved old movies and could name the stars in nearly every old film made. She hated fishing and camping but endured the pain to keep the family happy. Her favorite saying was “Go soak a leaf”.
Shirley was confirmed at St. Paul’s.
She is survived by her husband Don Meier; daughters Julie and her husband Gregg, of Carlisle, MA, Karen of Huntington Beach, CA; sister Barbara of Greeley, CO; and grandchildren, Morgan and Alexa.
She was preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Florence Sitzman.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, October 17, 2014 at the Allnutt Macy Chapel. A reception will follow in the Allnutt Reception Center.
Memorial Contributions can be made to Hospice of Northern Colorado, in care of Allnutt Macy Chapel 702 13th St., Greeley CO 80631. Friends may view the online obituary and send condolences at www.allnutt.com.
