

Shirley J. Smith, 69, of Greeley died Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at North Colorado Medical Center. Shirley was born on February 22, 1943 in Westlake, Colorado to Roy Robert and Frances Evelyn (Kramer) Brossman.
Shirley grew up in the Gill area, graduating from Gill High School. On June 18, 1960, she married George W. Smith at the Smith home, south of Kersey. After their marriage, they lived in San Diego while George was in the Navy. After San Diego they lived in Kersey and Shirley worked as a cook at Fairacres Manor, Weld County General Hospital, Greeley West High School and Eaton Elementary School. She then worked for the Eat ‘N Place. In 1976 they moved to Eaton and then back to Greeley in 1991.
Shirley enjoyed playing scrabble, going to the casinos in Blackhawk, and caring for her granddaughters. Above all was the love for her family, especially her two granddaughters.
Shirley is survived by her husband, George; her daughter, Marcy Murray (Kevin) of Greeley; her son, Roy Smith of Gill; one sister, Gloria Allie (Harold) of Mesa, Arizona; two brothers, Ken Brossman of Limon and Harold “Butch” Brossman (Faith) of Port Angeles, Washington and two granddaughters, Megan and Melissa “Missy” Murray both of Greeley.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Keith Edward, David Lee and Robert “Bobby” Brossman.
Friends may visit from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Stoddard Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
