

Sibyl Parker, 93, of Greeley, died January 2, 2012 at Bonell Good Samaritan Center. Sibyl was born September 19, 1918 to L.O. and Golda M. (Pemberton) Shaffer in Marion County, in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas.
Sibyl graduated from Joplin Missouri High School in 1935 at the age of sixteen. On October 15, 1939 Sibyl married Claude Raymond Parker in Joplin, MO. Sibyl and Claude moved their family to Fort Collins in 1951, where Claude became president of the Chamber of Commerce and the president of Kiwanis Club. Sibyl worked as her husband’s bookkeeper and secretary for their companies, Dairy Gold Foods and Canada Dry Bottling for many years. While living in Fort Collins, Sibyl was a parent/leader for the Girl Scouts in Fort Collins and in the State of Colorado; she held leadership positions in the Newcomers Club and Women’s Community Bible Study. Sibyl was very active in the First Baptist Church of Fort Collins, where she taught Sunday school and Bible studies.
Sibyl and Claude moved to Greeley in the mid 1970’s when Claude took a position as the business manager for the Kephart Learning Center at the University of Northern Colorado. They were both active at Grace Baptist Church, where Sibyl again taught Sunday school and Bible studies.
Sibyl and Claude retired and moved to Mesa, Arizona for several years, where she again taught Bible studies at the local Recreation Center. In 2004, Sibyl returned to live in Greeley at the Bonell Good Samaritan Center.
Sibyl is survived by her son, Lee and wife Dana; daughter, Lynne; grandchildren, Mike (Karen), Dawn, Johnny, David and Paula; great grandchildren, Mitch, Chris, Jennifer, Teresa, Michaela, Karis, Cole, Rachel and Ben; great-great-grandchildren, Joe, L.T. and Braydon. She is preceded by her parents, husband, brother, Loran Shaffer and baby sister, LaRue Shaffer.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Grace Baptist Church, 6400 W. 20th Street, Greeley. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Sibyl’s name to Cops Fighting Cancer, Aurora Police Department, 15001 E. Alameda Parkway, Aurora, CO 80012.
