Stephen M Parker Sr.

Stephen Michael Parker, Sr., 60, of Greeley, passed away Sunday, January 4, 2015 at Hospice of Northern Colorado. Stephen was born on July 12, 1954 in Hot Springs, Arkansas to Alfred Christopher and Anna Margaret Elizabeth (Freeh) Parker.

Stephen was raised in Texas. At the age of 15, his family moved to Greeley and have lived here ever since. Stephen graduated from Greeley Central High School. He met his wife, Barbara Jean Rowland at church camp in May of 1972. They were married on June 8, 1973.

Stephen was a member of The Salvation Army all of his life. His parents were officers and pastors of The Salvation Army for 35 years.

Stephen loved his Mustang Cobra and cooking. His favorite foods were gumbo, cheesecake, chocolate chip cookies, chocolate lava cake, German chocolate cake and Rocky Road ice cream.

Stephen’s Siberian Husky/Malamute, Blaze, was his companion. After Blaze passed away, Eva, half wolf, half Siberian husky, took over as his companion.

Stephen enjoyed the outdoors when he was younger and picking raspberries in the summer time with his family. He really enjoyed taking drives in the mountains, with their bucket of KFC.

Stephen was a great family man; the word “no” was not in his vocabulary. He was a wonderful grandfather. He was very involved with helping his wife with her quilting and sewing, especially for family reunions.

Stephen is survived by his wife, Barbara; children, Stephen Michael Parker II (Lucinda), Vannessa Collins (Todd) and Lance Parker (Courtney); sister, Glady Anne Sharpe (Glenn); brother, Alfred Parker (Stella); seven grandchildren, Anthony J. Hurtado, Justin J. Hurtado, Christopher D. Hurtado, Orion Gage Parker, Galaxy Rain Parker, Pandora Valentyne Parker and Piper Marie Collins and two great-grandchildren, Dane James Hurtado and Annalice Marie Hurtado.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Harmon C. Parker.

A Memorial Service will be at 5:00 p.m. Friday, January 9, 2015 at The Salvation Army, 1119 6th Street, Greeley.
