Thomas Reed Dunn
24 June , 1931 – 6 October , 2019
Thomas R. Dunn, 88, of Greeley, died after a life well lived on October 6, 2019 at his home. Thomas was born June 24, 1931 in Findlay, OH, to Reed Bergman and Minerva Irene (Platte) Dunn. He met his bride of almost 63 years, Janis, in Cheyenne, WY. They married December 30, 1956
Thomas attended Bowling Green University, where he became a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He then transferred to his beloved Ohio State University, graduating from the College of Pharmacy in 1954. Following graduation, he was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. His last assignment was at Frances E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, WY. Thomas returned to Ohio State, enrolling in the School of Medicine and graduating in 1961. He was then commissioned in the United States Navy, stationed in San Diego, CA, where he completed his medical internship. Upon completion, he returned to Ohio to finalize his residency in Pediatrics at the Columbus Children’s Hospital. He joined the Greeley Medical Clinic in 1965 and retired from pediatrics in 1995. Following retirement, he began his career at the Colorado Medical Foundation, becoming the director.
Thomas participated in several missions, including ones to Belize, Costa Rica and Guatemala. He was dedicated to the Centennial Rotary group, and served that organization as its president. He was particularly committed to improving the facilities at the Poudre Learning Center in Greeley. He was a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and served as a guardian on an Honor Flight of Northern Colorado.
Thomas enjoyed traveling, especially to Hilton Head Island and Europe. He encouraged his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to also embrace that passion. His interest included woodworking, reading – especially about history and astrology - growing tomatoes and roses, and listening to classical music.

Dr Dunn was my pediatrician as a little girl. I was born in 1964. Then when I had 2 little girls he was their pediatrician till his retirement. I was blessed by that knowing my girls (and me as a freaky new mom) had the best pediatrician in the world. And I mean that. Prayers to your family. Greeley is saddened to lose such an iconic man.

Always enjoyed seeing Tom and Janise when we visited relatives Dr Marlin and Judy Frank in Greeley over the years and when they visited their timeshares in California. Joined him in taking a Sailing class at CU one year. Honored to attend the Rose Parade in Pasadena with them one year. Last time we saw them in Greeley he was riding a new red motor scooter. He enjoyed life to the fullest.

Dr. Dunn was a gifted Pediatrician. He made it so that I was never afraid to go to the doctor from an early age. As I got older, he did my sports physicals and was always the consummate professional. He had a very calming demeanor about him. I remember when I was 8 I embarrassed my Mom because I told Dr. Dunn that I loved him. That is how comfortable I was being around him. I trusted him--The world has lost a great man. I think of a quote said when Norman Vincent Peele passed- " Do not be sad that such a man has passed, but be grateful that such a man lived. My condolences to the Dunn family!

I had the pleasure of not only having Dr. Dunn as my children's Pediatrician, but to work for him for several years. Dr. Dunn was an awesome person, and a great doctor and the world was a better place with him in it. RIP Dr. Dunn, you will be missed.
