He resided in Castle Rock, Colorado, where he touched the lives of many with his hard-working and enthusiastic approach to life.
Vernon's career was marked by 25 years of dedicated service as a firefighter. Nineteen of those years were spent with the Denver Fire Department and Windsor Fire Department, where he was recognized with numerous awards for his bravery and commitment to the safety of others. His work was a testament to his selfless character and his willingness to help those in need.
Vernon was a loving husband to Dena Smith, whom he cherished more than anything in the world. He is survived by his sons, Chance Strong and Ashton Strong, and his siblings, Ryan Dibble, Laura Dibble, Robin Morgan, Phillip Morgan, Rod Steely, Karen Steely, Linda Doney, and Dwayne Doney. He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon M. Smith II, his grandfather, Vernon M Smith I, his grandmother, Ruth Smith, his father Bob Steely, and his mother, Ellen Steely.
In his personal life, Vernon was an avid hunter, gardener, camper, and fisherman. His passion for nature extended to bring the great outdoors to his own home, he grew his own vegetable garden and keep his own bee colonies. Vernon's enthusiasm for life was infectious, and he was known for his "all gas no brakes" attitude, always ready to lend a hand and give the shirt off his back to someone in need.
