

Walter graduated from Windsor High School, Windsor, IL, and attended college in Monmouth, IL. He was raised on a farm and enlisted in the Navy in 1943. He attended flight school while he was stationed in Kentucky. He received the Victory Medal and served in World War II.
He married Arleen Rodewald on June 10, 1951. The two moved often while Walter was employed by the Dodge Truck Division of Chrysler Corporation, assigned to the Regional offices. While he was at Chrysler he had the opportunity to meet Harry Truman in Kansas City. Walter was an entrepreneur. They bought and sold houses to save up money while working for Chrysler. In December 1965, the family moved to Greeley and purchased the Dodge car and truck dealership. They sold the dealership in 1970 and founded Western Equipment & Truck Inc., which is still operating as a family business and managed by their two sons, Craig and Brian.
Walter was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. He was devoted to his family, friends and especially proud of his five granddaughters Laurabeth Coffman, Catherine Coffman, and Katie, Susan and Sarah Sparrow. Walt loved to golf and take road trips with his sons to buy trucks. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Walt was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Arleen; his daughter Christy; and his three brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by his two sons Craig (wife Sharon), and Brian (wife Stacey) of Greeley; his five granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held at a later date.
