

Wanda Marie Compton, long time resident of Laporte, Co. passed away July 20, 2016 in Fort Collins. Wanda was born in Tonkawa, OK. on May 2, 1923 to Judson Earl Degraffenreid and Verna K. Goble. Wanda was raised in Denver and graduated from Manual High School in 1942. On December, 21 1954 she married Jess R. Compton; the couple moved to Laporte, CO in 1965 and built the Elkhorn Motel. Wanda and Jess ran the motel together for over twenty years. Wanda had a kind heart and a sparkling personality; she especially loved her close knit family and adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ever the avid golfer, Wanda was a proud member of the “City Park Nine” for over 25 years and although she never got a hole-in-one, she had been hit by three golf balls! Wanda also loved to bowl and go on gambling trips in her distinctive gold track suit. At one time Wanda knew all of the Colorado Rockies batting averages and was an avid Rockies fan. She never spoke an unkind word about anyone and was truly a sweetheart. Wanda is survived by her children: Jeffrey Compton (Jan), Letitia Hines, and Kathrine Reese (Ronnie), grandchildren Eric Hines (Tracy), Jesse Compton, and Scott Compton, and great grandchildren Bryce and Trent Hines. She was preceded in death by her parents, Judson Earl and Verna Degraffenreid, and brothers George and Glen Degraffenreid. A Celebration Of Life will be held at the family home on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Laporte, CO.
