Born on March 2, 1931, Nonie was a lifelong resident of Eaton and a proud graduate of Eaton High School, class of 1949. She married the love of her life, J. Gary Sullivan, on December 4, 1949. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised their family in the community they cherished.
She was a dedicated and hardworking individual, spending over 20 years employed at Maylott Pharmacy, Steele Grocery Store, and UNC. She was an exceptional homemaker who made the best homemade meals and if you ever went to her house, she would tell you “If you don’t eat, you can’t come back.” She had a gift for making everyone feel at home.
Nonie was a passionate and accomplished golfer, earning the title of club champion at both Eaton Country Club and Highland Hills in Greeley. Her love for the game went beyond personal accolades—she was instrumental in founding the Junior Golf League at Eaton Country Club, leaving a lasting legacy for generations of young golfers. She was the oldest living member of the Eaton Country Club and took great pride in being a mentor, competitor, and friend on the course.
Nonie was a competitor. You could often find her in golf tournaments or taking up a game of cards, cribbage or dice with her friends. She had a lucky hand and a knack for winning, no matter what she was playing. She had an adventurous spirit, road tripping and cruising to unique destinations; always visiting new golf courses and meeting new people along the way. Family and friend gatherings were her favorite pastime. She also found great joy in spending time with her grandchildren in which she passed on her love for games.
A devoted longtime member of the First United Methodist Church, her faith in Jesus Christ shaped every corner of her life. She sought to follow His example in all she did—welcoming others with open arms, offering grace freely, and sharing His love through compassion, laughter, and generosity. Her life was a living testimony to the joy and peace found in walking with the Lord.
Nonie is survived by her son Bill (Jennifer) Sullivan; daughter Diana Sullivan-Kenny; her grandchildren Amber (Stephen) Austin, Sara (Matthew) Barnard, and Elijah Sullivan; her great-grandchildren Camden and Brayden Barnard; her brother Paul Bechthold; and sister Edna Burgess, and her loving companion Jerry Boodry.
She was warmly welcomed into Heaven by her beloved husband J. Gary Sullivan, her son-in-law George Kenny, and her sister Dorothy Wood.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to her devoted caregivers - Yvonne, Sylvia, Karen, and Corina whose compassionate care, unwavering support, and kindness made an immeasurable difference in Nonie's life. Their dedication and gentle presence brought comfort and peace to both her and the entire family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Eaton Country Club Junior Golf Program, in honor of Nonie’s lifelong dedication to youth and the game she loved. Checks can be made out to the Eaton Country Club and mailed to 37661 Co Road 39 Eaton, CO 80615 - please put Junior Golf Program Donation in the memo.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Eaton Country Club on Sunday, August 24th, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. Friends and family are invited to join in honoring Nonie with stories, laughter, and love, just as she would have wanted.
