

Hiram was born in Saul, Kentucky on March 27, 1928, the son of Justis and Mary Barger, and attended Saul Kentucky Schools.
Mr. Barger worked as a Sign Supervisor with the Indiana State Highway Department for over 34 years, he also worked for Marsh and Lo Bills Supermarket for over 14 years, he retired when they closed. He was known fondly by all who knew him as the Greencastle Whistler.
Hiram was a member of Well Spring Christian Church in Coatesville. He loved to hunt, dig Ginseng, and eat mustard greens. He always said “You’ll never be broke as long as you have $12.64!”
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Norma Jean Barger; six sons, Harold Barger, (wife-Lois), Greencastle, Lonny Barger, (wife-Cathy), Greencastle, Larry Barger (wife-Kathy), Brazil, Hiram Barger Jr., (wife-Cindy), Greencastle, Kenneth L. Barger, Greencastle, and Wendell Barger, (wife-Sandra), Coal City; 34 grandchildren; over 20 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 9 brothers and 4 sisters.
Services will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Blaydes officiating. A cremation will take place at a later date. Friends may call at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home from 12 Noon until time of Service.
