James Edward Adams

James Edward Adams, 71, of Greencastle, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2019, at his residence surrounded by his family.
James was born in Greencastle on March 11, 1948 the son of Virgil and Virginia (Hayworth) Adams, and was a 1967 graduate of Greencastle High School.
Mr. Adams proudly served in the United States Army as part of the 1st Calvary during the Vietnam War. He received a Purple Heart, and two Bronze Stars. He began working as a Deputy for the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department when he came home. He also worked for many years with Lone Star Cement until he retired. Upon his retirement he began working at Pingleton Saw Mill. James was a member of American Legion Post 58, the VFW Post 1550, and was a lifetime member of the NRA.
Survivors include two children, Jamie Adams, Greencastle, and Billie Jo Bumgardner, (husband-Paul), Greencastle; three sisters, Marie Borer, Wanda Hutcheson, (husband-Kerry), and Brenda Marlatt, (husband-Mike); four grandchildren, Christian York, (wife-Brittney), Morgan Adams, Noah Tesmer, and Mason Adams; a great-grandson, Briggs York; his beloved friend, Patricia Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Donna Faye Myers; a nephew, Seth Marlatt; and a brother-in-law, Richard Borer.
The family is planning Celebration of Life on Saturday, March 23, 2019, at the American Legion in Greencastle from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. A private family burial will be held in Little Walnut Cemetery at a later date. Military Honors will be provided graveside by the Greencastle VFW post 1550 and the American Legion Post 58.
