James Steven Akins

Born September 9, 1955 in Greencastle, the son of James A. Akins and Elinor (Irwin) Buis. He was a graduate of Greencastle High School “Class of 1973”.

Steve was a veteran having served in the United States Air Force.

He had retired from the Putnamville Correctional Facility. He was a member of the American Legion and Long Branch Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Steve is survived by his wife, Anita (Klebusch) Akins; son John (wife Kim) York; siblings Karen (husband Larry “Steve”) Sheldon, Ruth (husband Jon) Myers, Cheryl (husband Stephen) Robertson, Richard “Arlie” Mitchell ( Misti), and Tony (wife Melissa) Mitchell; grandchildren Mike (wife Katie) York, Matt (wife Serrina) York, Jaylen York, Jarrett York, Nick (wife Sarah) Long, & Emily Long (Dalton Beasley); five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, September 6, 2024 at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will follow at the Brick Chapel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM on Friday until time of service at the funeral home.
