Obituary of James Edward Maxwell
James Edward Maxwell, 79, of Greencastle, passed away Wednesday evening at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. James was born in Akron, Ohio on April 12, 1939, the son of Glenn and Opal (Rosenbaum) Maxwell, and was a graduate of Angola High School. Mr. Maxwell earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Sociology from Valparaiso University. He did post graduate studies at Battelle Institute of Columbus Ohio and Management Studies at Virginia Highlands College in Bristol, Tennessee. He was a devoted member and past President of Kiwanis, as well as a very active member of Greencastle Christian Church, a member of Windy Hill Country Club, and on the board of the Putnam County Board of Health. He began his career in Greencastle as Assistant Manager of Montgomery Ward. Later, he became Director of Marketing and Research with Abbott Laboratories until he retired. James was an avid Chicago Cubs and Blackhawks fan. He loved God, his family, and lived life to its fullest. Survivors include his wife, Loretta (Duncan) Maxwell; four children, Karen Hagan, Kevin Maxwell, Chip Kessler, (wife-Rhonda), and Christina Bittles, (husband-Rick); eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Jerri DeLong; and two grandchildren. Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 15, 2019, at Greencastle Christian Church with Pastors John Tischer and Mark Miller officiating. Burial will follow in New Providence Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 14, 2019, at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home or one hour prior to time of Service at the Church.
