She married Oscar (Junior) Martin Jr. in 1946. They had three sons, Robert (Joe), Gary (Gus) and Mike.
Joanne was a devoted mother and homemaker from Clinton Falls and worked at many professions after the boys became of school age, including driving a motor paper route for The Daily Banner/Indianapolis News, PR Mallory, and North Putnam Schools as a bus driver. In later years, she worked at Kroger as a cashier, Creek Jewelers, and The Shoe Sensation.
Joanne married Dale McFarland in later life and lived in Plymouth, Indiana for several years before moving back to her roots in Greencastle. She participated in the Christmas Home Tour three times. Loving purple, her homes were always decorated with a purple theme. She loved to cook and bake and was best known for her peach cobbler and chocolate and butterscotch pie! She entertained family and friends many Sunday nights with a pork or beef roast, and a warm fresh cake or pie! In addition to enjoying being with family and friends, she enjoyed painting the interior of homes, including her own and those of family and friends. She loved music her entire life, including playing the organ in her condominium. In her early years she sang at local churches, funerals and other gatherings with her parents and brothers. She was a long-standing member of The Clinton Falls Community Church, where she played the piano and organ for many years until health issues necessitated her retirement from those duties.
Joanne is survived by her three sons, Joe (wife Paula) of Greencastle, Gary (wife Pat) of Pittsboro, Mike (wife Mindy) of Danville, 7 Grandchildren, 11 Great Grandchildren, 1 Great-Great Grandchild, a brother Tom Miller of Clinton Falls, and Stepchildren Kathy McFarland Asher and Les McFarland.
