Richard L Benson

Born July 16, 1934 in Alexandria, IN, he was the son of Elbert and Goldie (Wiles) Benson and was a graduate of Alexandria High School “Class of 1952”. He married Sherrill Jean (Morris) Benson on August 29, 1954 and she survives.

Richard had been a security guard with the Gary Hoffa Agency working at FB Distro in Greencastle. He had previously worked in sales for Western Southern Insurance, worked at the Jewel Tea Company, and Omar Bakery. He had also served in the Indiana National Guard.

Survivors include his wife, Sherrill; sons, Brad (Debbie) Benson, Brian (Nancy) Benson, and Barry (Stephanie) Benson; a daughter, Betsy (David) O’Hair; two sisters, Marjorie (Ken) Aimen and Geraldine (Paul) Haynes; 15 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Robert, Elbert Jr., and Howard Benson; and two sisters, Margaret Jones and Martha Garman.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home with interment to follow at the Brick Chapel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 am on Wednesday until time of service at the funeral home.
