Roy was born in Putnam County on January 12, 1931, the son of Worley and Edna (Dicks) Shoemaker, and was a 1950 graduate of Fillmore High School.
Mr. Shoemaker proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Fillmore United Methodist Church. Roy worked for many years as a machine operator for IBM until his retirement.
Survivors include his daughter, Cathy Richey, Indianapolis, a sister-in-law, Betty Shoemaker, Greencastle; two grandchildren, Noah Richey (Helen) Brownsburg, and Micah Richey, Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Shoemaker; a sister, Mary Lou Alsop; and three brothers, Lee, Russell, and John Shoemaker.
Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 16, 2026, at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home with Pastor Bryan Palmer-Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Fillmore Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until time of service on Monday.
