William G Calhoun of Greencastle, Indiana, one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, fell asleep in death unexpectedly on Sunday, January 30, 2022 at his home with his beloved wife of 45 years, Alisa (Hurley) Calhoun. He was 71 years old.
“Uncle Bill,” as he was affectionately known, was born October 22, 1950 in Hillsdale, Illinois to John and Jeanne Calhoun. His father's early death when Bill was only 21 years old contributed to Bill's efforts to search the Bible for answers about why God allows so much suffering.
When he began studying the Bible with Jehovah's Witnesses, the pieces of the puzzle finally started coming together. Bill dedicated his life to sharing the good news of God’s Kingdom and was baptized on Friday, July 11, 1975.
Bill's love for God & his fellowman was evident in the way he viewed his circumstances. After suddenly losing his ability to walk he was asked what one thing he would like to gain back. He said, "Just to be able to sit up comfortably enough to encourage my friends".
He will be deeply missed by his wife Alisa, his sister Kathy Montgomery & her husband Jim of Palmetto, Florida, along with their 2 daughters Laura & Debbie, his brother-in-law Steve Grossl along with his four children - Gary, Michelle, Stephanie & Steven and Bill's cousins Cheryl & Lisa. He was preceded in death by his sister Nancy Grossl the day before.
Many more family members & friends (too numerous to list here) are eagerly awaiting the time when “he will rise in the resurrection on the last day.” (John 11:24) “That reminds me of a song...” as Bill would say.
A Memorial Service will be held via Zoom on Saturday, February 19th at 2PM.
