Aidan Justice Hughes, 32, of Greensboro, NC (formerly of North Palm Beach, FL) passed away in his sleep on October 14th. Born in West Palm Beach, Aidan was the beloved son of Chandra Bill-Rabenecker and the late Jim Hughes, and stepson to Rob Rabenecker. He was a loyal brother to Ethan Hughes, and best friend since High School to Laura Thauberger.
Aidan carried his family’s heritage proudly. He cherished his Texas roots through the love of his Grandma Bea and Grandpa Elmer, and he honored his Japanese ancestry through his maternal Grandmother, Toshino (Mama-san), whose spirit and traditions lived on through him.
For the last 17 years, Aidan courageously battled a diagnosis of schizophrenia. Despite daily challenges, he succeeded in graduating from college, traveling, enjoying the love of family and friends, finding time to write and play music, and pursuing his passion for cooking. He was happiest in the kitchen, where his love of the culinary arts and dining brought people together. He also found solace and a connection to his Creator in nature.
His infectious smile, booming laugh, and warm bear hugs will be greatly missed, along with his fabulous baked goods.
A private family gathering will be held in Greensboro. A celebration of Aidan’s life will be held in West Palm Beach at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider removing the stigma from mental illnesses like schizophrenia by donating to the National Alliance of Mental Illness or supporting one’s own mental wellness.
