Allan Carithers Banner Jr.

Born in Greensboro on November 2, 1931, he was the son of the late Allan C. Banner, MD and Marian Boren Banner Hicks.

A graduate of Darlington School, Rome, Georgia where he was President of the YMCA Cabinet, he attended North Carolina State University where he completed two years in the School of Design and joined the Alpha Omega Chapter of the Kappa Alpha Order. He received a BA degree in Economics and Business Administration from Guilford College in 1955. After graduation, he served for two years in the U.S. Army, stationed in Karlsruh, Germany.

A former Vice President of Pomona Corporation and Piedmont Associated Industries, he also founded The Banner Group, an executive outplacement firm. He retired in 2007 after 16 years as Senior Career Management Consultant with Right Management, an international human resources consulting firm with offices in the triad.

Allan was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Greensboro, an Elder, Deacon and an 8th grade Sunday school teacher at First Presbyterian Church. He was a gentle and kind person who loved life and those around him.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Susanne Chamblee Banner, his son Allan C. Banner III and his wife Cathye of Raleigh; Daughters, Marian Banner Bullins and her husband Mike; Betsy Banner Mayes and her husband Rick, all of Greensboro; Eight grandchildren; Molly and Kristen Leonard, Blake Geddes, Michael and Katie Banner, Carter, Carson and Madison Mayes; Sisters Jane Banner Kelly of Greensboro and Sallie Hicks Holt of Chattanooga, TN.

A memorial service will be held at 2PM on Wednesday, December 28th at First Presbyterian Church, where he was a member for 65 years. Interment will be private in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends after the service in the Virginia Gilmore Room at the church.
