Mrs. Ann Louise Kenan Russ, 86, a native of Wilmington, passed away peacefully in the company of her son and granddaughter after years of declining health. Her life will be celebrated at 2 PM, October 15 at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield chapel with interment to follow in Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:30 PM prior to the service.
Ann was one of six children of Joseph E. and Annie Childers Kenan. Her parents and siblings have preceded her in death. She married Donald Ray Russ in 1946 and in 1953 they moved with their son, Douglas, to Greensboro to pursue careers. She started working at Western Electric in 1956 where she remained until she retired in Quality Control in 1991. At the time of Donald’s death they had celebrated sixty seven years of marriage.
Words like friendly, social and upbeat come to mind when asked to describe Ann. Yard sales and junking were her hobbies and Ann loved the beach but that was about the extent of her outdoor activities. She could appreciate a beautiful flower or enjoy a meal with fresh vegetables but she wasn’t interested in tending them as she wasn’t an outdoor girl but instead adored shopping for the latest trends in fashion. Ann kept her coif maintained and her nails done and she was just as pretty on the inside. When her grandchildren came along they enjoyed Saturday socials together having lunch, ice cream and of course, shopping. She was a faithful member of Lindley Park Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and participated in the Lydia Sunday School class.
She is survived by her son, Douglas and his wife Rhonda of Greensboro; five grandchildren, John Russ of MN, Dawn Marie Russ, Gene Bragg and wife Melissa, Elizabeth Russ, and D.J. Russ all of Greensboro; fourteen great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Douglas and Rhonda would like to thank Hospice of Randolph County, 416 Vision Drive, Asheboro, NC 27203 for their compassion and tender care given to Ann during her illness. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to Hospice of Randolph County are greatly appreciated. Online condolences may be made at www.haneslineberryfuneralhomes.com.
