

Betty Hager Ireland, 85, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 7, 1932 in Ronda, NC to John Hufford and Dinah Adams Hager. Betty moved to Greensboro from Wilkes County in 1950 after graduating from Ronda High School. She arranged to stay with the Seagraves family until she could find a job. They had preciously moved to Greensboro from Wilkes. After moving and finding a job at Kresses Dime Store, she married Herman who had moved to Greensboro first to find a job to prepare so they could be married. They were married for 61 years when Herman died in 2011. Betty retired from Lorillard Tobacco in 1996 after 38 years of service and dedication. She enjoyed digging in her garden and watching it grow. Betty was a member of Sumner Baptist Church for over 50 years before moving her membership to Community Baptist Church. Betty was strong in her faith in God and spoke of her mother and siblings walking to church when she was just a small girl. She spoke many times of Jesus living in her heart and just how real he was to her even as a young child. She remained steadfast in her faith until she left this earth to be with Jesus. She is loved by her family and will be missed so very much.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents and husband Herman Kyle Ireland; sisters, Gertie Mae Hager of Ronda, NC and Edith Hager Howard of Roaring River, NC; brothers, James Arthur Hager of Monaca, PA., Grady Wilson Hager of Indiana and Reverend Roscoe Armfield Hager of Yadkinville, NC. Surviving are her daughter, Carol Elaine Ireland of home; grandson, Kevin Wayne Quakenbush and wife Jennifer or Pleasant Garden, NC; great grandchildren, Oakley Faith and Gage Cross Quakenbush and brother, J.W. Hager of East Bend, NC.
Services to celebrate Betty’s life will be held on Tuesday, January 23th, 1:00 pm at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
