Camille Broadhurst Simpson, of Greensboro and Smithfield, NC died Monday, December 28, 2020 at Moses Cone Hospital. She was born in Raleigh, NC on April 12, 1944, the daughter of Jack Johnston Broadhurst, Jr. and Sarah Oliver Broadhurst Cunningham. She was preceded in death by her father, stepfather George Reynolds Cunningham and her mother and her sister Sarah Broadhurst Wood.
Camille was always a beautiful person, inside and out. When faced with adversity, she offered advice by example: navigate life with a sense of dignity, show respect to others, work hard, but play harder. She demanded high expectations of herself as well as those she loved, especially on the dance floor.
As a mother and grandmother, she gave unconditional love and attention. As a friend, she was always generous, faithful, and positive in spirit.
She was active in many organizations including: First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro, Green Thumb Garden Club, Wednesday Literary Club, White Memorial Presbyterian Church in Raleigh, Junior League of Raleigh, Charter member of the Capital City Garden Club, and the Colonial Dames of America.
Camille is survived by her two children: Camille Galloway (Jimbo) and Sam Simpson (Ashley), and her five grandchildren, McCabe Galloway (Kiernan), Gray Galloway, Chandler Simpson, Sam Simpson, and Isabelle Simpson. Also surviving are her sister, Mabel Broadhurst Lassiter (Will); brothers, George Reynolds Cunningham, Jr. (Mary) and Jack Johnston Broadhurst. III.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to be made in Camille’s memory to: First Presbyterian Church, 617 N. Elm St., Greensboro, NC 27401 or The Winston-Salem Street School, 630 W. 6th Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101.
