He was the first born to Fred and Minnie Ensley on October 22, 1947. A Page high school graduate, where he ran track, he spent his working career as a draftsman, most notably at Carolina Steel Corporation.
The best accolade you could attribute to him is found in Matthew 25:21. "Well done, good and faithful servant." David was not only a servant of Christ, but to everyone he knew. From moving furniture, to mowing lawns, to repairing homes, to baking cakes and cookies, especially for his church community and dad, he was always giving and refused anything in return.
No greater example of his caring and compassion is his long term care of his wife Audrey, who suffered from multiple sclerosis.
David often said he was "75 going on 13" since he still loved comic books and his assorted cartoon character watches.
He never met a salad he liked. His only unforgivable sin was being a Duke basketball fan.
He loved to write poems and music but never had any published. They were only meant for the individual or occasion he wrote them for.
David is survived by his two sons, Erik and wife Kelly, Jason and wife Natarchia, six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, his father Fred and wife Louise, brother Larry, and very special friend Linda Lewis.
He was predeceased by his mother Minnie, brother Mark, and wife Audrey.
The service celebrating David's life will be held on Sunday, June 25, 2023 at 4 pm at Gate City Church of God, 200 State Street, Greensboro NC 27408.
Visitation will be at the church from 2 to 4pm.
