

David was born on March 21, 1930 to the late Charles and Ruth Bowland Stanfield in Reidsville, NC. A graduate of Wake Forest College, he was employed by Burlington Industries and Highland Industries in production planning and customer relations.
He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, taught Sunday School, and sat on multiple committees. His faith was made evident by his volunteer work at the Potter’s House every Friday morning and his work delivering Meals on Wheels.
David was a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather. He loved playing with his grandchildren and going to their ball games and dance recitals. He was proud of his three children. He worked hard to provide for, nurture, and educate them. He enjoyed sports, especially following the athletic programs of his alma mater – the Demon Deacons. He was an avid tennis player.
David is survived by his wife of forty-eight years, Jean Funderburk Stanfield; children, Paul Stanfield (Sandi) of Greensboro, Mary S. Bonheimer (David) of Charlotte, and Bill Stanfield (Evelyn Oliveira) of North Charleston, SC; seven grandchildren, Ashley, Megan, and Jake Stanfield, Bud and Will Bonheimer, and Agegnu and Kibru Stanfield; brother, Charles Lee Stanfield of Lancaster, SC, sister, Jo Ann Nunnallee (Tom) of Sebring FL, and a beloved cousin, Jean Lane of Greensboro, NC.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 12, 2012 at First Baptist Church, 1000 Friendly Avenue, Greensboro at 1:00 with visitation following. Dr. Mike Queen and Dr. Steve Pressley will be officiating. Inurnment in the columbarium at the church will be private.
