Diann E. Powers

Greensboro - Diann E. Powers, age 71, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 12, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. Diann was a woman of deep faith and devotion to Christ. Selfless and generous by nature, she won over others with her exuberant personality and radiant smile.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Miami (FL). Diann was a vibrant 5th and 6th grade teacher for 30 years at Devon-Aire Elementary school located in Kendall, Florida. Diann treasured her former students who adored her for making learning fun with songs, games, team building, and filled each day with excitement.

She approached life with humor, faith, positivity, and strength. Diann valued most, her precious moments with her family. She was happily married to her college sweetheart for 49 1/2 years.

Once Diann retired from her teaching career, she and Dave relocated to Greensboro, NC to be close to her daughter. Diann completely adored her two grandsons, always enjoying every second of her moments shared with them.

She made friends naturally, wherever she went, as strangers were simply people she had not yet met. Diann and her husband enjoyed eating out nightly, while forming amazing friendships with other restaurant 'regulars.' Diann actively watched Westover Church's live streaming of their services every Sunday; and participated online with others who were also enjoying the sermon remotely.

Her family and friends will miss her humor and warmth but will take comfort knowing that she is with her loving Lord and Savior, Jesus.

Diann was preceded in death by her fathers, mother, and older sister. She is survived by her loving husband, Dr. David Durfee Powers, her daughter who adored her, Stacie Morgan and husband, Rodney; grandchildren, Tyler and Cooper Morgan; sister, Susan Hamill; and nephew, Chris Hamill.

Her legacy will be of someone who was loved by many, but who loved others even more.

A 'Celebration of Life' will be held on Saturday, May 18th, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Westover Church, 505 Muirs Chapel Road, Greensboro, NC 27410. Family visitation will begin at 1:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Moses Cone Palliative Care, 1200 North Elm Street Greensboro, NC 27401 or to the Animal Rescue and Foster Program, PO Box 77393, Greensboro, NC 27417 in memory of Diann Powers.
