Donald Roscoe Nelson, 77, a resident of Greensboro, passed away on Wednesday March 25, 2026, at Beacon Place. He was born in Forsyth County, the son of George Roscoe and Elizabeth Scarlette Nelson.
Don graduated from Northwest High School. A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp, he served in Vietnam. Don received 3 Purple Hearts for wounds received in Vietnam, plus the Silver Star for saving three men stranded on a hill. He carried each of them to safety. He retired from the News & Record working in the Imaging Dept. He was a member of Summerfield Baptist Church.
Don was married to Nancy Carr Nelson who passed away on July 16, 2024. He was also preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Jeffrey Nelson.
He is survived by his daughter, Marcia Nelson Hernandez; his sister, Carolyn Nelson Mcgee of Kernersville and his brother, Barry Nelson and wife Deb of Charlotte.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday March 30, 2026, at Guilford Memorial Park conducted by Pastor Derrick Moody.
