To celebrate her life, a gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday, March 17 at 3:00-5:00 p.m., at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm Chapel. All are welcome to come and share a favorite memory of Dee.
Dee was born June 30, 1921 in Visnjicevo-Grk, Serbia, the daughter of Milan Patkovic and Vukosava Vasic Patkovic.
Dee immigrated to the United States at the age of 73 with her son and his family to join her daughter and son-in-law. She quickly learned how to communicate with people who could not speak Serbian, and, as a family friend said, “When the heart is connected, words are not necessary. Her smile is all we needed to brighten the day.” Dee was a master tailor and enjoyed dressing fashionably “for a woman of a certain age”; she loved to dance – high heels and all. She always had a smile and loved to laugh. Dee was a wonderful cook and she was always doing for others until the end. Dee’s presence seemed to sparkle and lifted the spirits of those around her. She and her daughter had an extraordinarily close, loving relationship that was evident to all who met them. She was a mom (“Mala” or “Keva”) to many of Dusica’s and Petar’s friends and a grandma (“Baka” or “Baka mala”) to Milos’ and Aleks’ friends. Dee, most of all, enjoyed spending time with her family, which was always the center of her life’s focus, especially her grandchildren.
Her beloved husband, Milos, preceded her in death many years ago, and her son Petar, with whom she shared mutual admiration and great love, passed away last year. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Dusica Korda-Sparks and husband Jim of Greensboro; her grandsons, Milos Korda of Charlotte and Aleksandar Korda of Asheville; her former daughter-in-law, Aleksandra Korda of Greensboro; and everyone still living that she met in her life.
