Thought about him the other day. I took a chemistry class as an adult student in 2010 at UNCG. It was the one class that I needed to get into PT school. It was the hardest thing I had ever done. I worked through school, paying my own way and studied chemistry at every moment. I’d walk into those exams feeling 100%. I’d do the equations and show the work, and fail with flying color. He made the impossible possible and helped me pass even though o was terrified and terrible at the math. He was wonderful, compassionate and caring. I can still hear his voice saying “molar mass” and it makes me smile. I’m sorry to hear of his passing. He is surly missed.

I thought of Dr. Shamshoum the other day. He taught me Physics, Arabic, and soccer at the American Hebrew Academy. He was one of my most beloved teachers because of his vibrant personality and care. I still eat dates at half-time of my soccer games to this day because he always said they were the best way to re-energize. He made physics fun. He made Arabic even more fun. He represented another view of the world to me and his loving spirit made me feel like anyone could come from anywhere and change the world with how they were to others. I only spent a brief time in the grand scheme of his life, but remember him fondly. I recall he told me that if I chose to spell my name the way I wanted with the more fun to write Arabic letter, it would translate to snot. That was too funny. Anyway. All my love to him and his family. May his memory forever be a blessing.

He was the best chemistry lecturer at uncg. He used to do this funny little wink and joked about everything. I am so sad to hear about his loss.

An Egyptian archeologist she said. Brianna was the first of three in our family to be educated by Dr. Ed. I felt that a better direction with greater opportunities for her might be in other sciences, and I suggested Chemical Engineering. One of the things I have learned as a father is to appreciate quality guidance from good people. My suggestion fell on a mute ear until it was blessed by Dr. Ed, which changed her whole mindset and direction.  Although never shaking his hand, I will always remember him because he qualified my thoughts that day. Brianna recently graduated from UNC Charlotte and is learning how to apply her knowledge from Dr. Ed, as a Mechanical Engineer. All of us should hope we can make an impact while we are here. He has certainly secured our thoughts as we will always remember what he did for us. Rest in Peace 

Dr. Ed was single-handedly the teacher who prepared me the most for my future. His class was difficult, but he always encouraged growth and deeper understanding. I learned so much being in his class as well as having the honor to be a TA for him. His intelligence and care inspired me to become an even better person. I know his influence will impact my life as a prospective teacher too. There is no doubt that his memory will live on in the lives of so many of his students.

I am so grateful to have known Dr. Ed, he was an amazing and definitely my favorite teacher. I loved taking tests in his class, I truly felt challenged and accomplished when I did well. I enjoyed the stories he would tell us about his soccer playing days or days as a college student in the lab. His energy was infectious and anyone who walked into his room smiled. I owe him for helping me love science and pursuing a career as an elementary science teacher. My deepest condolences to his family, he will be greatly missed but always remembered. 

Debbie, so very sorry to learn of Ed’s passing.  He was a wonderful teammate and friend.   One of the most graceful on and off the pitch.  His memories last forever.  I have moved or would be there today for big hug.  Tom

I will always remember Dr. Ed walking into any room saying, "Hey ya'll!" I had the honor of working with Ed for years at RCHS...he taught my daughter to believe in her abilities and gave her the confidence she needed to push herself academically. He was our Dr. Ed, our guardian of honesty, loyalty and excellence. More than anything he was my friend. Thank you Ed for being one of my biggest fans in my new position at RCHS. You will be missed dearly...Rest in peace my friend.

I had the honor of having Dr. Ed for several classes during my time at Rockingham County High School.  He made learning about science a wonderful challenge and really encouraged his students to do their best.  Not only that but I often found myself just asking general life advice as well.  I really enjoyed picking his brain about general life things and talking about things going on in the world.  He helped to push me in pursuing an engineering degree and after 4.5 years I was finally able to graduate with that degree in December.  He was an amazing role model and I have carried many of his lessons with me into my career.  He will be greatly missed and my heart goes out to his family.  He was a great man.

On my sixteenth birthday, I went to work for a fish house as busboy. Edwar, a student at Averett College, was our cook. I remember few details of this experience, but the sum total are great memories of a more innocent time. Edwar was an awesome teammate and big inspiration to a kid who cleaned the tables.

My children Caylee Weaver and Noah Weaver absolutely loved you as their teacher at RCHS.  They both always spoke so highly of you and respected you and your advise.  When I notified them of your passing they were both heart broken!  They said how much they respected you and my son even said, “he was the reason I went into engineering at college!  He always told me that would be a great field for me!”  You have continued to impact students long after they left your classroom which says a lot about who you were!  Thank you for  touching my kid’s hearts and minds  and being a great mentor!  Sending prayers to your family because I know your presences will be missed, but your legacy in education will carry on in the students you touched!  RIP

We are so deeply saddened that such a kind, beautiful, brilliant soul has left us too soon.  We have been neighbors with Ed for over 15 years, and will hold the memories of Christmas parties, Super Bowl parties, driveway get togethers and more very dear to our hearts forever.  You could always count on warmth and kindness from Ed, as well as interesting stories that would always include his infectious laugh.  Debbie, Jessica, Shoukri, Juliet and spouses, please know that we care deeply for all of you and that we are holding you in our hearts.  You all were his pride and joy, and he will always be watching over you.  All of our love and deepest sympathy to you.  

Ed and I played soccer together for many years.  He was a great teammate and friend, and a true leader on and off the field.  My wife and I have fond memories of the Christmas parties Ed and Debbie so graciously hosted over the years.  Our hearts go out to Debbie and the family.  Ed will be deeply missed.

Oh dear friend Edwar, the news of your early departure was shocking to all of us at the MAbjeesh family, my heartfelt condolences go to the Shamshoums Debbie, Jessica, Shukri, Juliet and the Shamshoums in the holy city of Nazareth . our early childhood was full of adventures , roaming  around the hamlets of Nazareth flying kites , playing marbles , and shooting the breeze At the YMCA, The good old times with my brother Edwar will never be forgotten those stories Will be told to my children and my grandchildren .  rest in peace dear friend  & may the Lord bless your soul . 

Ed and Paul played soccer together for years, and we have especially terrific memories of sharing a house with Ed and Debbie on a two week soccer trip to Bellingham, Washington.  Juliet was there, too.  I performed Shoukri's wedding.   I loved talking to Ed about his growing up in Nazareth--he always had such great stories. He was always excited about his next invention/discovery.  And he was a ringer for Tony Bennett.  Debbie, Noha and I would just laugh and laugh...  Ed, you are a blessed spirit, gone too soon, and Paul and I will surely miss you.

My condolences to the Family of Dr. Edwar Shamshoum.
As an Administrator at RCHS, I had the opportunity to work with Dr. Ed for many years.    I found him to be very down to earth.  Despite his many accomplishments in life, he had such a humbling attitude.  He loved his students and challenged them to excel.  He encouraged them to not just accept information, but to research it for its truth.  I remember us talking about "global warming" and one of his students who had an opinion that disagreed with his research.    He suggested she do her own research to determine what was correct.   I loved to hear him talk with his Israeli accent.  Sometimes I think I would get him to talk just so I could hear his accent.  We had some good conversations about education, work ethics, global warming, his growing up as a child, why he decided to teach on the secondary level, recycling, etc.  Because I liked recycling so much,  we came up with an agreement.  He had a recycling box in his classroom and when it filled up, I would take its contents  home and put in my recycling bend so that  it would not go into the school trash and end up in the landfill.  
 As I think about Dr. Ed, scripture tells us, to whom much is given, much shall  be required (Luke 12:48).   This scripture reflects the life of Dr. Ed, he was given a lot and he gave a lot.   He impacted so many lives in such a positive way.   I know he will be missed by many.  Dr. Ed has gone from Labor to Reward.  Rest in Peace my friend.

I had the privilege of working with Dr. Ed at RCHS, and he was one of those teachers who could hold kids to a high standard, keep them on their toes, and still earn their love and respect. As the librarian I do a lot of tech support, and every time I walked into Dr. Ed's room to fix something, he would make a great show of booming my name in his wonderful voice to the kids, as if I were Superman there to save the day. He had an uncanny way of doing that -- holding you to a high standard, but also making you feel like a superhero. I'm so glad I got to know him; love and light to the Shamshoum family. 

I had the pleasure of knowing Dr. Ed while working with him at RCHS.  I enjoyed talking to him in the mornings, he was always such a pleasant person, and always so kind.  I know he has touched many lives and that he will be missed tremendously.  Prayers for his family.

I taught with Ed for many years at RCHS.  He was a brilliant man and a better friend.  We had a lot of fun together.  My heart, love, and prayers go out to the family.

Dr. Ed was an amazing teacher, colleague and friend. I enjoyed our talks at Rockingham County HS each and every day and he taught me many things about life. He will be missed!

As his next door neighbors,  Mark and I have many fond memories of Ed - over the fence conversations as we worked in our yards, his interest and kindness to our kids,  and many fun gatherings with Ed, Debbie, and other neighbors. He was kind, energetic, interesting, and always had time to engage in conversation. We respected him immensely. That respect deepened over the 18 years that we knew him. We admired his love and devotion to his wife Debbie and his family. Debbie, Jessica, Shoukri, and Juliet - we are lifting you and all your extended family in prayer. As the sadness of your great loss softens we know you’ll have so many wonderful memories of the ways Ed touched the lives of everyone around him. 

Ed was my friend. Ed had many friends, and that is because Ed had a heart and energy to embrace all those he loved. Saying I will miss him does not convey how deeply his death tore a gaping hole in my life.

His family, Debbie, Jessica, Juliette, Shoukri, spouses, and his grandchildren— carries his life forward.

But, I want to say something about his deep friendship with Bob Tury. Bob and Ed were brothers. Rarely did you see one without the other. My heart goes out to Bob and hope the pain of his loss transforms itself, over time, into the happiness that you found in such a rare friend. Ed is gone and that hurts. Ed/Bob has disappeared too and that hurts just as much. Love to you all.

My heart goes out to his family and those closest to him. I am saddened to hear of my best friend passing. I was in Dr. Ed's class in RCHS and when I, we needed help he was there not just in his class but anywhere. I was lucky to have met him and his wife. He was the most smartest man I have ever met. I remember I always had lunch with him the stories we told each other. I am so lucky to have had him as a teacher he was always there for his students he watched over them as a guardian of the school. He and his family will always be part of my family. He was and will always be my best friend. My best friend the man the myth the legend. 

I spent many lunch periods with "Dr. Ed", as he was referred to at RCHS,
discussing politics and how to solve world problems. Never solved them but I will always have fond memories of those lunches.  He will surely be missed and was loved by many students and colleagues.  

Doc was a great teacher, mentor, and friend.  We walked together at lunch and he taught me many great lessons: take care of your family, help your friends, work and play hard just to name a few.

 I will never forget his black eye from playing soccer(in his fifties), helping my daughter Jenna plan for her trip to Israel(his home), and beating him badly in ping pong the first game but he then coming back and beating me the very next game(still trying to figure out how he did that). 

Praying for peace and comfort for his family that he loved so much.



Dr. Ed was a wonderful instructor. He would always bring a new learning experience to class. Whenever he saw me, he would always just give me a look. I will never forget his bright personality, his immense knowledge and the lasting impression he made on me. Due to his love for teaching and belief in me, it encouraged me to become a teacher and I hope to become as great as him. I pray that God will give you a peace beyond understanding of reassurance that he has finished his course. The memories will last forever. - Whitney Carter

I had the honor and privilege of working with Doc Ed for several years at Rockingham  High. 
H was a good friend and great educator. We walked every day during planning  . I will never forget the memories  and fellowship we shared.

Such a larger than life personality! I taught down the hall from his class and will forever remember his daily, morning greeting to his class of “GOOD MORNING Y’ALL “ in his booming, most exaggerated southern drawl. My deepest sympathies!

Absolutely favorite teacher. He always loved saying my first name that he would always say either two way “Bl-ur” or “Bl-Ai-R” and then my last name was always “Za-itzzzzz” Truly he was one of the classes I knew would always bring a smile to my face when having a bad day and always enjoyed his stories. Gave good advice as well that I still carry with me ❤️

ed was a great neighbor--he and debbie came to many backyard events at our home, and we always enjoyed ed's jolly smart ways--he and i always got onto the subject of how to convert sea salt water to fresh drinking water--it was a chemistry thing between us--ed will be missed by his friends, neighbors, and especially his family
