A memorial service will be held Friday, 2:00 p.m., at St. Andrews Episcopal Church by Rev. B.J. Owens. A gathering of family and friends will follow in the parish hall.
Eddie was born August 6, 1935 in Greensboro, the son of William Simon and Athena Gabriel Simon.
He was a graduate of Greensboro Senior High School in 1953 and attended Guilford College majoring in Economics and Marketing. In 1957, Eddie, along with his family, opened Laurie’s, a women’s fashion apparel business, in the Friendly Shopping Center. After selling the business in 1986, he formed a promotion/marketing company which promoted in-store sales incentives to upscale apparel stores around the country. Eddie was a former President of the Friendly Center Merchants Association and was a board member for the Greater Greensboro Merchants Association. Additionally, he served as a board member of the action group for the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce on community planning and development. Following retirement, Eddie followed his interest in real estate development. He was a lifelong member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church and enjoyed classical music (piano), chess, gourmet cooking, astronomy, photography and the restoration of older homes. Eddie was very proud of his family and his enthusiasm for life was contagious. He will truly be missed by those he loved.
In addition to his parents, Eddie was preceded in death by his brothers, Fred and Marshall Simon and his young grandson, Sam Furman.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Lois Williams Simon; daughters, Dr. Lori S. Burton (Vaughan) of Robbinsville, NJ and Karen S. Furman (Jimmy) of Greensboro; sister, Laurie S. Queen (Larry) of Greensboro; grandchildren, Michael and Christopher Burton and Will Furman, along with his adored niece and nephews.
The family asks with gratitude that memorials in Eddie’s name be made to St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 2105 W. Market St., Greensboro, NC 27403.
