It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elsie Stokley, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Born on December 31, 1939 in Wallace. Elsie's journey came to a close on January 30, 2025. She led a meaningful life filled with love, faith, determination, and endurance, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Elsie is survived by her devoted children: Son, Jeffrey Marshall Stokley, Sr.; and daughter, Kimberly Stokley Frederick, and daughter, Teresa Stokley Allen, as well as her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Her loving parents, Edward Wilson and Nellie Grace Wilson, as well as Walter Marshall Stokley, Jr and Arthur Allen Norman, predeceased her, as did her cherished siblings: Faye Giddings, Edward Holmes Wilson, Jr., Judy Rivenbark, and Charles Wilson.
Upon graduating from Cosmetology School in Durham, NC, Elsie married the love of her life, Walter Stokley, and moved to Greensboro, NC. It was here that Elsie began her career as the Manager of Belk Hair Salon, and later opened her own successful Beauty Salon, which she operated until 2000.
In addition, Elsie was the owner of all United Coupon franchises East of 1-95 along the coast of NC, also including Greensboro, NC. Later in 2000, these were sold to a couple that still own and operate this business under a different name.
Elsie was a woman of many loves, connecting with others through shared meals, acts of service, visits, and music, enjoying the melodious tunes of Elvis Presley, and the engrossing narratives of soap operas, lifetime movies, and action films. Her favored pastimes were spending time with her family, traveling, and playing card games. She loved exploring beautiful areas like Europe, the Bahamas, St. Martin, Mexico, along with numerous other places.
Remembered for her fun, excitement, and courageousness, Elsie was a beacon of perseverance and determination. Some of her proudest achievements were raising her children and sharing the lessons of love, forgiveness, charity, steadfast faith, and unwavering resilience.
Mourning her loss, we will forever cherish our memories of Elsie. A public visitation service will be held at the Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home & Guilford Memorial Park (6000 W. Gate City Blvd, Greensboro, NC 27407) on Monday, February 3, 2025, beginning at 10:30 am, followed by a funeral service at 11:30 am. Burial service will immediately follow.
She will be forever missed and remembered for her love of the Lord, her children, and her family and friends.
