Erma L. Smith, age 99, passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2025. She has been resident of Pennybyrn since June, 2024. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Westminster Gardens, 3601 Whitehurst Road, Greensboro.
She was born January 19, 1926, in Stokesdale, NC. She graduated from Stokesdale High School and was Valedictorian of her class. After graduation she went to work for Jefferson Standard Life Insurance in the accounting department. She attended Kings Business College at night and became secretary to the Auditor. There, she met her future husband, John Francis Smith (Chic). They were married on February 26, 1949.
Preceding her in death were her husband Chic and son Mark Kelly Smith. She is survived by daughter, Patricia L. Harrington (Patti) and son-in-law Robert J. Harrington (Bob); daughter-in-law, Julie Townsend Smith of Richmond; granddaughters, Jessica Manning and spouse, Zach Manning, Kathleen Collette and spouse, Alex Collette; grandson, Ian Smith and spouse, Jess; great granddaughters, Ella, Lillian, and Zoey Manning, Aubrey Smith and Nora Collette and great grandson, Lincoln Manning.
