

Esther Harriet Carmontry Miller, 94, went peacefully to her Lord on July 12, 2014 from Beacon Place in Greensboro. Esther was born July 19, 1919 in Syracuse, New York to Fred J. and Eva M. Carmontry. Surviving Esther are her daughter, Martha M. Allred and husband Charles Allred of Greensboro, NC; granddaughter, Jenneane Mahek and husband Clarke; great-grandsons Connor and Dillon Mahek and great-granddaughter Sophie Mahek of Manassas, Virginia; grand stepdaughter Pamela Duvall and husband Andrew; great-grandson Drew Duvall and great- granddaughter Kendall Duvall of Greensboro, NC; grand step-daughter Angela Richards and husband Bartt; great-granddaughter Chandler Richards and great-grandson Dillon Richards of Plano Texas. In addition to her beloved parents, Fred and Eva, she was predeceased by her husband, David John Miller and her son, David Carmontry Miller.
Esther was a most loving, caring and faithful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. All who knew her were drawn to her faith in her Lord, love of her family and God, musical talent and humility. She was a lovely lady who will be missed and remembered by many.
Esther graduated from Syracuse University, majoring in Home Economics. She taught briefly in New York State before moving to Washington DC. during WWII to work in the Signal Corps. It was there she met the love of her life, David, marrying on Jan. 20, 1945. After years of being a stay-at-home mom, she worked as a Supervisor in the Group Insurance Department of Equitable Life Insurance Company, retiring in 1985. She and David moved to Greensboro in 1986 to be near her family and became members at Jamestown United Methodist Church where she loved singing in the choir for many years and developed lasting friendships with a multitude of the congregation. One of her favorite activities was the Monday Lunch Bunch which she attended for over 20 years.
The family will receive friends and relatives at Hanes Lineberry, 6000 High Point Road, Greensboro, from 6 until 8 PM, Tuesday. July 15. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Jamestown United Methodist Church at 11 AM, Wed. July 16. Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Piedmont Christian Home. Their exceptional love, care and concern made the last 3 ½ years of Esther’s life happy and fulfilling.
