

Gene Alfred Parsons, 88, passed away Sunday, July 30, 2023 at Highland Square in Greensboro. A funeral service will be held at 5:00 p.m., Monday, August 7, followed by a visitation at Hanes Lineberry North Elm Chapel, 515 North Elm Street, Greensboro. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday August 8, at Monte Vista Cemetery 3460 Maple Acres Road, Bluefield, W.Va.
Gene was born September 4, 1934, in Elbert, West Virginia, son of the late Roy Alexander and Fairy Bingham Parsons. He proudly served his country while in the United States Air Force where he was stationed in Texas and Japan. He was quite the handyman who could build anything by hand and very skilled; trades he learned while in the Air Force. After his service in the military, he and his wife Shirley who were married in 1954, moved to Greensboro in 1961. They were in a trio together called the Singing Parsons and visited many churches. Gene had his own recording studio in his house and he produced many recordings. He was a lifelong member of the Church of God and a member of Pleasant Garden Pentecostal Holiness Church.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Parsons was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Heldreth Parsons; brother, Milton Parsons and nephew, Gary Heldreth. He is survived by his niece, Deborah Mendez of River View, FL, and nephews, Ernie Parsons of Tampa, FL, Eugene “Bubby” Heldreth and Mark Heldreth both of Daytona, FL. Also surviving is lifelong friend, Gaynell Howell; she and her late husband Frank worked with Gene at Merritt Drive Church of God.
