Girtha Locklear

A funeral service will be held Monday, May 12, 2025, 1:00 p.m., at Advantage Funerals & Cremations-Greensboro. Friends will be received from 12:00 pm until 1:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.

Girtha was born February 16, 1933, in Raeford, NC, the daughter of Lacy and Lena Scott Brewer.

Girtha attended the Triad Native American United Methodist Church. She was a very thoughtful, considerate and fun loving person. She was a wonderful mother who enjoyed sewing, fishing and tending to her flower garden. She was a great cook, and you never left her house hungry.

In addition to her parents, Girtha was preceded in death by her husband, Benford Locklear and her twin daughters, Doris Louise Locklear and Joyce Louise Locklear.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Veronica Sanderson, Benny Locklear, Lindy Locklear, Freddie Brewer, Ronnie Brewer, Gary Brewer and Novilene Locklear; 18 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 19 great great grandchildren.

The family asks with gratitude that memorials in Girtha’s name be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 4615 Dundas Drive, Greensboro, NC 27407.
