It is with great sadness that we are announcing that our beloved and beautiful mother, Grace Tucker of Greensboro, North Carolina left this earthly realm early Friday morning June 28, 2024 to go home to be with the Lord. She was 97.
She was preceded by her husband Richard Tucker in 1994. She was also preceded in death by her parents and all her siblings.
She leaves behind 3 sons: Clifford Tucker, Raymond Tucker (Cynthia), Ronald Tucker (Barbara), and 3 granddaughters: Gwen, Jessica, Sydney (Paul).
Grace was born March 8, 1927 in Kansas, the youngest of 5 children. She was also a blood cousin of Calvin Coolidge and Orson Bean. When she was young, her family moved from Kansas to Washington state where she met Richard. She received her Associate in Arts degree at Lower Columbia Junior College in 1947, then her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics at the University of Washington in Seattle in 1953 where Richard was also studying. The two got married in 1954. Later they moved to Oregon where Richard received his PhD Mathematics, and where their 3 sons were born. In 1963, the family picked up and moved to Seattle when Richard took a job there at Boeing. The family enjoyed living in Seattle because there was lots to do, and most of the relatives were not far away.
In 1968, the family moved to Greensboro where Richard became a Full Professor in the Math Department at NC A&T State University, and Grace taught there too, until she retired in 1997 at age 70. Since retiring, she loved working crossword puzzles and watching tv game shows. She also enjoyed playing her harmonica, which she did very well. She was very intelligent and had a wonderful sense of humor.
Mom loved her family and friends. All that knew her, loved her. She will truly be missed very much.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at the Congregational United Church of Christ at 400 W Radiance Drive in Greensboro.
“We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.”
