

Henry F. Strayhorn, 81, was born January 27, 1944, in Pollocksville, NC. He was the third of four children born to the late George and Victoria White Strayhorn. He was also preceded in death by a cherished aunt, Essie Mae White, who was instrumental in his rearing, and his stepmother, Dorothy Strayhorn. Henry obeyed the gospel and was baptized at an early age. He was a faithful member of Good News Baptist Church while in Greensboro, NC.
Henry was educated in the Jones County public school system. After graduating, he joined and served dutifully in the U.S. Air Force, receiving an honorable discharge. He attended NC Central University briefly before relocating to Greensboro, NC, where he worked at Lorillard Tobacco Company and retired after 36 years.
Henry was married to Carol Ann Cooper Strayhorn for 59 years. They have one daughter, Sonja.
Henry was known for being a bible scholar, eager to share the truth and blessings of Jesus Christ. Sensible and straightforward, an analytical thinker, problem solver, a natural storyteller, with a great sense of humor, he obtained greatest appreciation from simple things in life and enjoyed gardening, woodworking, lawn care, eating and talking with friends and family.
Peacefully, he was called home to eternal rest on Wednesday, January 14, 2026. Treasured memories remain with his devoted wife, Carol, daughter Sonja Strayhorn Sanders; his brother George Strayhorn (Robin), Kernersville, NC; sister Cynthia Jackson (Edward), Arlington, VA; sister Gwendolyn Strayhorn, Greensboro, NC, two grandchildren, Darren K. Sanders and Kaila M. Sanders; two special nieces, Tammy Woods of Greensboro, NC and Karin Strayhorn of Duluth, Georgia; nephew, Kevin Michael Strayhorn of Greensboro, NC, and many extended family members, classmates, and long time friends.
