Henry C.M. Whitaker, 80, died Sunday September 25, 2011 at Clapps Nursing Home in Pleasant Garden. Mr. Whitaker was born September 14, 1931 in Graham, the son of John T. and Myrtle Denson Whitaker. He was attending Pfeiffer College when he went into the Air Force. After serving his country, he returned home and graduated from High Point College and later received his Masters Degree from UNC-G. He taught Spanish for 33 years at Grimsley High School before retiring. He was a member of Pleasant Garden United Methodist Church. Henry was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jeffery Morrison Whitaker and his brother, John Whitaker.
Surviving are his wife Shirley Moore Whitaker of the home; two daughters, Laura Kenyon and husband Ed of Conway, SC, Stacey Rabon and husband Mack of Loris, SC; one sister, Doris Faircloth of Fayetteville and three grandchildren, Rachael, Josh and Travis.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel conducted by the Reverend Dr. Phil DeBerry. Interment with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard will be in Guilford Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel on Tuesday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
