James Joseph Hayes II

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Greensboro, NC. Burial will follow at Westminster Gardens.

Jim was born April 26, 1945, in Wichita, KS, the son of James and Mary Smith Hayes. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Geology from Kansas State University and a degree In Geophysics from the University of Tulsa. Jim loved the outdoors and could often be found hiking the trails of Virginia. Jim had many interests: including playing bridge, fishing, scuba diving, golfing, and watching sporting events, especially baseball and basketball. Jim was a hardworking, focused person who was kind and generous to those who sought his help.

Surviving is his brother Edward Hayes of High Point, NC, cousins, Janice and Ron Butler, Sally and Tom Crumbaugh, and Janet and Jim Merrill.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Mary Brooks, Maria Gutierrez, and Rachelle Conde for their loving care during Jim’s illness.

When we were growing up, Jim was a good big brother and through his mentoring and encouragement made a lasting impact on my life. He will be missed.
