Janet Tuttle Coggins, 81, of Greensboro, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 8th, surrounded by members of her family. She grew up in Winston Salem, North Carolina and moved to Greensboro at the age of 16 where she met and married her high school sweetheart, David John Coggins. They were married for sixty years and one month before he passed away on December of 2021.
She spent her life predominantely as a loving housewife and mother to their three children. As her children grew and moved to college, she took a job with Potpourri Press Company Store where she worked for years managing their flagship store and assisting the company in opening stores across North Carolina.
Janet and her husband spent over 10 years as youth leaders of Moriah Methodist Church where they shared the Gospel and a safe place for teens to come and fellowship. More times than not, the youth group meeting would end and then reconvene at their home for pizza, hang out time and laughter. Opening her home for people to come and “just be” was one of her favorite things to do. She was known to many as Mama Coggins.
Janet was a loving wife to her husband John, a mother to their three children: David Coggins (Kim), Susan Coggins Norris (Mark), and Steve Coggins, a loving Grandma to her seven grandchildren: Reed Coggins, Alison Coggins McGee (Garth McGee), Sam Norris, Laura Norris Barnett (John), Haley Coggins, Kolby Coggins and Jacob Coggins, and her great granddaughters: Evelyn and Emma McGee.
One of Janet’s greatest joys in the world was her family. She loved each member of her family individually and prayed for them faithfully.
There will be a private service for the family. Visitation with the family will be from 12:00 p.m. till 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 13, at Hanes Lineberry, 515 North Elm Street, Greensboro, NC 27401.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Tunnel to Towers, 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10306 or the Urban Ministries, 305 West Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, NC 27406.
