The world lost a beloved mother, Jean Seabolt Smith, of Snellville, Georgia, age 94, who went to be with her Lord and Savior, on December 10th, 2021. At the time of her death, she was surrounded by her children and passed in peace with much grace and love. She will be greatly missed by all. Jean was a fiercely strong and independent mother to three equally fierce, strong, and independent children. She will be missed by all.
Jean was born in Randolph County, North Carolina, the oldest of nine children, six girls and three boys. As the oldest daughter, Jean was a mentor and devoted sister to her eight brothers and sisters. Jean had a fierce love for God and family, especially her children and grandchildren.
Although Jean started working at a young age in the hosiery mill and other jobs, Jean's passion was to become a hair stylist and follow in the footsteps of her beloved father who was a well-known barber. By the early Sixties, Jean realized her dream of becoming a licensed hair stylist. She was passionate and dedicated to her craft. By the mid-Sixties, she owned and operated three hair salons simultaneously. Her passion for taking care of her clients and giving above average customer service allowed her to be very successful. At the age of 88-and-a-half, she finally retired from the last salon she owned in Chamblee, Georgia, Hair By Jean. After over half a century of being a successful hair stylist, Jean was not only oftentimes a magician, a psychologist, and counselor; but she became good friends with most all of her clients.
Jean is survived by one son, Mike Case, Sr.; two daughters, Susan Cooper and Lisa Lewis; one step-daughter, Kathy Marley (James); eight grandchildren, Mike Case, Jr. (Amy), Robert Cooper (Shay), Richard Cooper (Susan), Kristopher Lewis (Christa), Kyle Lewis, James Marley, Jr (Lesley), Amie Marley, and Ariel Case; three great-grandchildren, Jessica Miller, Kimberly Cooper and Reilly Cooper; one great-great-grandchild, Brian Miller; one sister, Loucille Purvis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jean was predeceased by her parents, Paul and Fannie Seabolt; husband Jack S. Smith; grandson, Rodney Allen Case; son-in-law Ken Cooper; step-daughter, Lydia Smith; three brothers, Paul Clayton Seabolt, Dwight Jerome Seabolt, Earl Wayne Seabolt; four sisters, Mary Farlow, Gladys Shepherd, Betty Jo Seabolt, and Sara Ruth Seabolt.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 14th, 2021, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Bill Head Funeral Home, 6101 Lawrenceville Highway, Tucker, GA 30084.
While Jean's family grieves her loss, they are honoring her memory with a service that is scheduled for Wednesday, December 15th, 2021, at the chapel at Bill Head Funeral Home, Tucker, GA.
A graveside ceremony will be held on Friday, December 17th, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Guilford Memorial Park, 6000 W. Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, NC, 27407
