Mr. Jeffrey "Jeff" Lee Sims

Jeff was born on July 11, 1953 to the late Jeff “Bud” Lenoir Sims and Elsie Sue Sims in Morganton, N.C. He graduated from Salem High and, thereafter, joined the U.S. Navy, proudly serving from 1973-1977. August 17, 1974 marked the marriage of Jeff and Julia and the beautiful beginning to their love story, that would continue for 48 years. Upon completion of education from Gardner-Webb University, his career highlights would include Chief Financial Officer of Finance and Accounting for Lifestyle Home Furniture Brand and Maitland-Smith Furniture, as well as Vice-President at Masco. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jeff was proudly a man of God. Jeff was a member of Gate City Baptist Church, where he was honored to be a deacon and component of a choral quartet.

Jeff loved many things – a sunny day at the beach, playing a round of golf, sharing a laugh with his friends at Box Seat, and listening to a wide variety of music – from Luther Vandross to Bruno Mars, from hymnal gospel to today’s radio hits. Above all, Jeff treasured his Lord and his family – bestowing unconditional love as a husband, Dad, and “Pup-Pup”. Jeff never met a stranger – was a friend to many and will be missed by all. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, Julia Waters Sims.

Those left to cherish his memory include son, Travis Sims of Mooresville, N.C.; daughter, Brett Mikesell and her husband Kyle of Randleman, N.C.; grandchildren, Landon Sims, Reese Sims, Mason Mikesell and Maelyn Mikesell; sister, Pam Gibson; niece, Gina Barrier and her son, Graham Fleming; along with a multitude of friends.

A gathering of friends and loved ones, with military honors, celebrating Jeff’s life will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 24, 2025, at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield, 6000 West Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, N.C. 27407. The family invites orange attire to be worn as a tribute to Jeff’s favorite color.
