Jerry is survived by his loving wife Nancy of 57 years; his two sons Allan (Nancy) and Ryan (Sharon), his five grandchildren James, Jonathan, Mason, Allison, and Adam; and his three brothers Marty (Mary), Mike (Clair) and Tim (Annie).
Jerry was born December 6, 1946 in Charleston, West Virginia and his family eventually settled in the Colonial Heights area in Virginia. He graduated from Colonial Heights High School in 1965. He is a graduate of the University of Richmond. At an early age, Jerry developed a love for baseball and played in many leagues into adulthood. The sport he really loved and played until a week before his passing was golf. He developed many wonderful friends and relationships on the links. He worked early in his career in construction, then in real estate. He settled in the financial industry where he worked for the last 40 years plus. In addition, he served as a Captain in the United State Army Reserves for ten years.
Above all else, Jerry loved his family. In recent years an ideal day was spent with Nancy driving the backroads in North Carolina and Virginia in search of out of the way Bar-B-Que restaurants. He loved his children and their families deeply. He was his children’s and his grandchildren’s greatest advocate. He spent time watching their sports while gently reminding referees that his offspring could not have possibly committed a foul, to fishing or just meeting them for a meal. He was always encouraging and ready to step in if needed. As he often reminded us all, he was only a phone call away.
He will be remembered for his quick wit, his love of helping others, his wisdom and his love for the Lord and Lawndale Baptist Church where he most recently served as a deacon and on other committees and as a teacher in his Kindred Spirits Life Group. He will be missed deeply by all of us.
A celebration of Jerry’s life will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday September 25, 2025 at Lawndale Baptist Church in Greensboro, NC with a reception in the Christian Life Center immediately after the service where the family will greet friends.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Jerry’s name to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
