Jerry Preston Hembree

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, April 23, 2021 at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 West Gate City Blvd., in Greensboro. He will be laid to rest in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery following the funeral service. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm on Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Born in Jackson County, Georgia on September 5, 1938 to the late Guy Hoyt and Darlene Baird Hembree, Jerry was of the Christian faith. He was a lifetime resident of Greensboro and was a Contractor for many years. He was a life-long NRA member, enjoyed hunting and fishing, loved being on or near the water and was quite the shag dancer. He had a great love of sports, especially softball and at one time had The Hembree Builders Softball Team. Jerry was a one of kind fella who had a great sense of humor and could keep folks intrigued for hours with his great storytelling, not to mention he was a talented artist as well. Jerry took great joy in doing things like sawing firewood, bush hogging his pastures, tending to his cows and just farming in general. He loved being on his tractor, no matter what the task. Jerry was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his fiancée, Joyce Baird; son, Hoyt Preston Hembree and wife LeeAnn; daughters, Zane Carroll Hembree-Risdon and husband Scott; and Dale Marian Hembree Talley and husband Paul; sister, Guylene Carver; grandchildren, Haven Hembree, Zack Risdon, Chase Risdon, Gage Talley, and Griffin Talley; and other extended family and friends.
