Joan was a beloved mother, grandmother, wife, daughter, and friend.
She was born in NY and grew up in Watertown, MA. After high school, she went to secretarial school and also worked as a waitress. Joan was always willing to do what she needed to to provide for her family which meant working multiple jobs, long commutes and hard days. She instilled this strong work ethic in her children, Michael and Kerry, as well as an immensely strong love for animals, and empathy. Her love for both her kids and grandkids, Kaitlyn and Alexander, was impossible to measure.
She also loved her sons in law, Joseph and Rodney, immensely and was so proud and happy that both of her kids found and married their soulmates.
She was preceeded in death by her parents Robert and Mary Ballantine, as well as her husband Donald W. Smith.
